miraDry in Glendale, CA

Permanent underarm sweat, odor and hair reduction

Excessive underarm sweating and odor can interfere with confidence, clothing choices and daily comfort. At Glendale Whole Health we offer miraDry, an FDA-cleared in-office treatment designed to permanently reduce underarm sweat and odor while also decreasing unwanted underarm hair.

If you are unsure whether your sweating may have a hormonal, metabolic or thyroid-related cause, you may also visit our Hyperhidrosis and Excessive Sweating Functional Medicine page for a more comprehensive evaluation approach.

miraDry uses controlled thermal energy to destroy sweat and odor glands in the underarms. Because these glands do not regenerate, results are long-lasting with no ongoing maintenance treatments.

What is hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by sweating beyond what is necessary to regulate body temperature.

Primary axillary hyperhidrosis affects the underarms and may cause:

  • Sweat soaking through clothing
  • Visible moisture in cool environments
  • Persistent odor
  • Social discomfort

You can learn more about underlying contributors on our Functional Medicine hyperhidrosis page.

How miraDry works

miraDry delivers precisely controlled thermal (microwave) energy to the layer of tissue where sweat glands, odor glands and hair follicles reside. The energy permanently destroys these glands while a cooling system protects the surface of the skin.

Clinical data from the manufacturer shows an average reduction of approximately 82% in sweat and odor following treatment. Treated glands do not grow back.

Hair follicles are also affected, resulting in permanent reduction of unwanted underarm hair for many patients.

Underarm hair reduction: what to realistically expect

miraDry is FDA-cleared for permanent reduction of unwanted underarm hair. It is not a laser hair removal treatment and is not designed to eliminate every hair follicle.

The primary purpose of treatment is sweat and odor gland reduction. Hair reduction is a secondary benefit.

Most patients experience:

  • Decreased hair density
  • Slower regrowth
  • Finer and softer hair
  • Reduced shaving frequency

Some patients barely need to shave after treatment. Others shave occasionally but much less often.

Results vary depending on hair thickness and density. If complete hair removal is your primary goal, laser hair removal may be more appropriate.

How many treatments are needed

  • Patients with primary axillary hyperhidrosis typically require two treatments
  • Patients with excessive sweating but not clinical hyperhidrosis often do well with one to two treatments
  • Treatment is individualized based on severity and goals.
